Brief Church History
Sungkomen Baptist Church is located in Mokokchung which is the district head quarters of the Ao-Nagas. It is a vibrant community church that believes and practice the ideals enshrine in the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Our Church has a very humble beginning on March 17, 1959 at the house of Mr. Imtisang. It was initially started under the name Garage Fellowship, rightly fitting to the founder members who were mostly Drivers and Mechanics of the then District Administration. At the beginning they use to gather in a house and later on 14 women contributed Rs.5/- each and bought some benches and shifted to a vacant government quarter in 1962. Following persons were the first member of the church: (1) Imtisang (2) Imsu jamir (3) Mokoksangba (4) K.I Wati (5) Imshiangba (6) Nangshikokba (7) Imtiakum (8) Nungshisosang (9) Pusotemjen (10) Ajosangba (11) Lanusobo (12) Jongpongmar (13) Rosenali.
Today our Church has grown into dynamic lively community of close to 800 household and 2500+ members. We gathers to the all round need of its members. We also partners with mission agencies and church associations in spreading the gospel to fulfill the great commission.
